Protecting vision from diabetes – KeepSight

Diabetes is the leading cause of vision loss in working age Australians with 1.3 million Australians with diabetes registered on the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) database.  Almost half of these people are not currently having regular eye checks. Following several years of advocacy with its members, in 2018 Vision 2020 Australia partnered with Diabetes Australia to develop a national eye check recall and reminder system for people with diabetes.  The program – KeepSight is funded through a public-private partnership.

KeepSight is a national eye screening initiative for Australians living with diabetes. The program aims to ensure all people with diabetes access the clinically recommended diabetes eye checks. The program provides an opportunity to dramatically reduce rates of diabetes-related vision loss and blindness in Australia by facilitating early detection and treatment of diabetes related eye problems.

KeepSight reminds people with diabetes who are registered with the program when they are due for a diabetes eye check.
