Embedding Vision in Primary Care Submission

This submission to the Department of Health requests that vision checks become a core part of the Medicare Benefit Schedule chronic health checks. This submission was developed on the advice of the Prevention and Early Intervention Committee (PEIC) and aims to promote routine vision checks as part of the primary health care model for patients who have or are at risk of chronic conditions. Getting these linkages is essential to help prevent avoidable vision loss and is consistent with the global focus on integrating eye health into broader healthcare. Alongside this submission, the PEIC also shaped a submission to The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners earlier this year requesting expansion of vision related content in the Red Book, which is a core resource for GPs.
