Submission to the NDIA: Planning Policy for Personalised Budgets and Plan Flexibility

This submission celebrates positive changes which will give NDIS participants who are blind or have low vision more flexibility in the way they use their funds. It also highlights some opportunities for making sure the new planning process and other reforms work well for this cohort, including commitment to a timeframe for delivery of a draft plan, and offers of support coordination and regular assessments by specialists in assistive technology in plans. It also highlights the importance of ensuring the independent assessments system provides accurate information for planners and appropriately measures the functional capacity of people who are blind or have low vision. Other recommendations relate to simplifying planning documents and the narrative of the planning process.
