This submission describes some of the unique challenges service providers face in sustaining the workforce of specialists supporting people with permanent vision loss, noting that shortages and thin markets are a significant problem, as they are in the disability and aged care sectors more generally. It also notes that though the number of older Australians with vision loss looks likely to increase, there is an opportunity to minimise costs by creating innovative just-in-time training approaches which generalist aged care workers can access if they have a client with vision loss.
