This submission responds to questions posed in a Position Paper, as part of Stage 2 consultations in the development of the new National Disability Strategy. It recommends that economic security and health and wellbeing should be considered key outcomes for the Strategy. It endorses the proposal that attitude change should be one of the strategy’s goals,, and suggests this should be modelled by leadership from all levels of government, through the prioritisation of universal design and accessibility of information in all government contracts and procurement processes. It also highlights the necessity of affordable internet for people who are blind or have low vision, and argues that the Strategy must recognise the needs of older Australians with vision loss, who are not adequately supported by current arrangements.
