The City of Whittlesea held its annual Welcome expo, WEXPO Connect 2020, from 9-13 November, for residents who have recently arrived from overseas. Due to COVID-19, this year’s celebration of cultural diversity, was held over a week in an online format. The focus of WEXPO is to welcome new migrants and to connect them to local health, community, education and other relevant services to help them settle into the City of Whittlesea.
Vision Initiative participated by providing information and links to its suite of translated eye health videos and resources, to enable migrants to gain an understanding of eye health, the importance of protecting their vision and how to connect to eye health services in Victoria. Information was shared on the WEXPO website and Facebook. The videos and resources, available in ten languages, provide simple eye health information including an overview of what happens when a patient has an eye check.
