The new Chair of Vision 2020 Australia, Amanda Vanstone, has kicked off an eye health and vision care orientation program with a trip to Cambodia to see the critical work being done by Vision 2020 Australia Global Consortium members.
Accompanied by Vision 2020 Australia’s CEO, Jennifer Gersbeck, the itinerary included meetings with the Cambodian Minister for Women’s Affairs, Cambodian Health Minister and Australian Ambassador to Cambodia, to highlight the importance of eye health and keeping it on the policy agenda.
Site visits during the tour included the Department of Ophthalmology at the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital; the Brien Holden Vision Institute Phnom Penh Vision Centre; the Chey Chumneas Hospital which partners with The Fred Hollows Foundation to focus on leading causes of blindness; and CDMD, a local non-government organisation working with CBM Australia towards disability inclusion in Cambodia.
