Vision 2020 Australia has launched a campaign in the lead up to the Federal election aimed at candidates in marginal seats in a bid to raise awareness about eye health and vision care.
Acting CEO Brandon Ah Tong said the #Icareforeyecare campaign was targeting nearly 300 candidates across Australia in the lead up to the election on 2 July.
“The campaign aims to educate candidates on the number of people living with blindness or vision impairment in their communities and raise awareness about those who are at increased risk of eye disease as a result of diabetes,” Mr Ah Tong said.
“By localising eye health statistics we are hoping that candidates understand the issues affecting their electorate and are empowered to make a real stand for people in their community at risk of vision loss and those who are blind or vision impaired.”
“The campaign is encouraging candidates to sign a pledge to show their support to help end avoidable blindness and vison loss and to recognise that everyone who is blind or vision impaired should have access to the services and supports they need,” Mr Ah Tong said.
Mr Ah Tong said the lead up to the election was a great opportunity to get eye health and vision care on the radar of people concerned about their local communities and those who will ultimately become the decision makers in the Australian Government.
The #Icareforeyecare campaign kicks off on June 9 and will run until the Federal Election on 2 July.
