Pre-election policy proposals

Integral to Vision 2020 Australia’s mission is to advocate for improved eye health and vision care for all Australians. With the announcement of the 14 September Australian federal election, Vision 2020 Australia is developing funding and policy proposals for consideration by the Australian Government and the Opposition. The first proposal finalised: Progressing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander eye health and vision care lists recommendations the sector would like to see adopted by both sides of politics. Parliamentary Friends for Eye Health and Vision Care breakfast

On 19 March, Vision 2020 Australia hosted a Parliamentary Friends Group for Eye Health and Vision Care breakfast at Parliament House, in Canberra. The event was a great success attracting over 95 guests–including 18 members of parliament from both sides of the house. Special guests included former Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery AC AO (Mil) CVO MC (Retd) and Professor Emeritus Ron McCallum, Chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. World Sight Day a Success

World Sight Day (WSD) celebrated on 11 October this year, was a huge success, largely due to the support of government, Vision 2020 Australia members, supporters and champions, as well as wide media coverage of WSD events. From 3 September 2012, ICEE will be known as the Brien Holden Vision Institute Foundation to celebrate its long-standing partnership with the Brien Holden Vision Institute, its founding supporter and partner, and eye health and vision care research non-profit organisation.
