Funding boost by AusAID for optometry faculty development

Following the success of last year’s Australia Awards Fellowship, hosted by the Brien Holden Vision Institute, funding has been awarded again by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) to run the Fellowship in 2013, providing a sizeable boost to global optometry faculty development. This year eighteen candidates will join the Fellowship program in Australia from the Western Pacific and South Asian regions – including Fiji, India, Papua New Guinea, Pakistan and Vietnam. Twenty two reasons to be excited about growth of global optometry

Twenty two people from five nations are currently in Sydney brought together through the Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) Fellowship program funded by the Australian Agency for International Development and hosted by the International Centre for Eyecare Education (ICEE). Vision 2020 Australia Global Consortium update

A key milestone in the planning for the 2013-2015 Avoidable Blindness Initiative has been achieved, with AusAID approving the concept design.  More detailed planning can now commence focused on the three countries, including Vietnam, Cambodia and East Timor.  Working Groups have been formed and in country consultation will take place in late August/early September.  The final design plan must be approved by the end of the year, so that programs can commence in early 2013.
