Do you know someone who has diabetes? Are you managing the condition yourself? Almost certainly, you’ve answered ‘Yes’ to the first question and you may also have answered ‘Yes’ to the second. In fact, Diabetes Australia estimates that approximately 1.7 million Australians are currently living with diabetes, with about 275 new cases every day. July 14 – 20 is National Diabetes Week and I’d like to tell you about one of the fantastic Vision Initiative activities: the Diabetes and Eye Health project. Read more →

Amelia Lake

Amelia Lake is a PhD student with The Australian Centre for Behavioural Research in Diabetes (ACBRD). Prior to joining ACBRD, Amelia worked as a Research Fellow in the School of Psychology at Deakin University managing a number of long term research projects. During that time, Amelia developed a strong interest in chronic condition self-management with a specific focus on people with chronic co-morbidities and complex psychosocial issues. Amelia has been closely involved with community based physical activity initiatives and was awarded a National Volunteer Award in December last year for her role as coach and mentor for the ‘Marlborough Trailblazers’ a running club for local primary school students.
